Build a stripped-down Kit 00 that undercuts K-Bot at $7,999-$9,499. Lower DOF (16-18), commodity actuators, Raspberry Pi 5 compute. The compiler still validates it — that is the differentiator. A K-Bot buyer who wants the cheapest humanoid is not a Kit 03 customer anyway.

Compete on trust

The Point

K-Scale is doing something genuinely impressive: a fully open-source humanoid at $8,999 with its own Rust-based OS, simulation stack, and ML inference pipeline. They are the closest thing to a “RISC-V of humanoids.” Dismissing them would be foolish.

But open-source hardware without BOM validation is a parts list, not an engineering guarantee. HUMA's compiler checks what K-Scale does not: voltage compatibility, torque budgets, thermal margins, supplier availability, and compute-to-model fit. When you compile a HUMA kit, you know it works before you order a single part.

The right move is not to fight K-Scale on price. It is to make the compiler indispensable — the tool every humanoid builder runs their BOM through, whether they buy from HUMA, K-Scale, or assemble from scratch. The intelligence layer is the moat.
